 This week we launched our planned call-to-action targeting leaders of the three sectors of the distributed computing industry: platform, operations, and content. We began our campaign by reaching out to the sixteen top technology and entertainment companies that engaged in last year's exchange of letters about digital piracy.
We expanded this effort to include the six leading US broadband ISPs, which we believe must also be involved in effective solutions to the central problems we are working to address.
And finally, we extended invitations to participate to leaders of the top four file-sharing service operators, whose input is also critical in the formulation of viable remedies to unauthorized content distribution.
The work that we have undertaken will require policy changes in many cases, and therefore support will be needed from the most senior levels of participating companies. For those who have been initially involved with DCIA, we hope that obtaining such endorsements will prove to be beneficial to your good faith efforts to further the legitimate commercial development of this nascent industry.
Also this week, legislators and their staffs began returning to Washington, DC signaling an end to the summer recess. We are now receiving a growing number of requests for briefings and technology demonstrations to help prepare Congress for its upcoming agenda with respect to peer-to-peer file sharing. In this regard, it is essential that DCIA be the voice of integrity by reporting factual information about consumer safeguards, content protection, and P2P usage patterns. We encourage companies who wish to submit their data with respect to both current service offerings and planned new releases to do so. The question I am asked most frequently by House and Senate officials is, "How is recruitment coming?" A private sector neutral forum, where members of the platform, operations, and content segments of the distributed computing industry can engage in constructive dialogue, is recognized as having great potential value at this stage of our industry's development. As Labor Day Weekend comes to a close, now is the time to put DCIA to work for you.
