INAUGURAL P2P MEDIA SUMMIT

The Distributed Computing Industry Association thanks all who attended its first annual Washington, DC Conference & Exposition.

This inaugural event took place June 22nd-23rd at the Intercontinental Holiday Inn in Tysons Corner, VA.

The June 22nd Conference featured keynotes from top P2P software distributors, panels of industry leaders, a special workshop, and networking opportunities.

The event included a continental breakfast, luncheon, and cocktail reception with live entertainment.

The June 23rd Exposition was held in conjunction with the Digital Media Conference, and registration for the full DCIA Conference & Exposition included that event as well.

In its third year, the Digital Media Conference was a "must-attend" event for media, entertainment, and technology businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies involved in the digital distribution of media.

Keynote speakers for the June 22nd DCIA Conference included eDonkey's Sam Yagan, GNAB's Jan Marc Külper, QTRAX's Allan Klepfisz, and MyPeer's Les Ottolenghi.

As a result of market-share shifts among the current generation of open P2P software programs, which have demonstrated steady usage growth for more than three years, MetaMachine's eDonkey ranked number one on a global basis, ahead of second-ranked BitTorrent, at the time of this Conference.

With the recent launch of its white-label P2P platform branded as In2Movies with partner Warner Bros., GNAB, a service of the Bertelsmann Group’s arvato mobile, exemplified the industry’s closest collaboration to-date of the entertainment and technology sectors.

QTRAX was developed by e-commerce software maker LTDnetwork, which signed EMI to make its catalog available via the world’s first advertising-supported P2P music distribution service just before the Summit. QTRAX will also provide a premium subscription option and the ability to purchase songs and albums a la carte.

And as a result of INTENT MediaWorks' unprecedented development and integration work to leverage multiple file-sharing platforms and UI configurations, as well as web-based distribution, MyPeer represented the most advanced implementation of P2P in the marketplace at the time.

Luncheon speakers were TAG Strategic’s Ted Cohen and Nate Alvord of the Digimarc Corporation.

Alston & Bird's Aydin Caginalp & Renee Brissette conducted a special session on corporate value optimization for firms in this emerging high-growth industry.

Other DCIA Member speakers included Clickshare's Rick Lerner, Digital Containers' Mike Farley, Global Media Intertainment's (GMI) Jakob Schwerdt, Javien's Leslie Poole, MediaPass Network's Daniel Harris, P2P Cash's Tom Meredith, P2P.com's Albe Angel,  RazorPop's Marc Freedman, and Telcordia's Corey Clinger.

The live showcase entertainer for the post-conference networking cocktail reception was the Internet’s First Rock Star Scooter Scudieri.

Exhibits and demonstrations for the June 23rd DCIA Exposition, held in conjunction with the Digital Media Conference, featured industry-leading products and services.

We are very grateful to all who participated in this 2006 inaugural event. Registration online was handled by DCIA Member Javien Digital Payment Solutions.
