As the global cloud computing industry continues its double digit growth march, other fields that are closely aligned with cloud computing, such as cloud security and cloud communications services, are surging as well.

Data from Synergy Research Group shows that the cloud business communications market grew by 23% during the first quarter of 2017 as companies around the world rapidly adopt UCaaS, or Unified Communications as a Service.

Synergy says that the total cloud communications market now generates in excess of $2 billion a year.

Cloud security is the other area that is growing rapidly as more and more companies keep migrating to cloud.

Hottest Skills for Getting a Cloud Computing Job

Cloud services are swiftly taking over the enterprise computing market, with everyone from Netflix to American Airlines signing-up in the hopes that the cloud will keep things from crumbling to pieces.

While enterprises are eager to make the switch, many companies are running into a big, big problem: There aren’t enough people who know how to work with cloud services for the amount of work that needs to be done.

Jobs are going unfilled and salaries for trained workers are jumping.

“The demand for people way outweighs the supply,” said David Linthicum, the SVP of Cloud Technology Partners, who consults on such matters.

“It’s very similar to when the internet exploded in the late nineties. We’re seeing the same patterns in the cloud.”

With so many job openings, Linthicum said, the time is now for IT workers to retool their skills.

Cloud, AI, Data Analytics Key to Growth

The company is consulting with the administrators of the New Administrative Capital to take advantage of the company’s solutions in establishing the capital to become the first smart city in Egypt.

The tenth annual Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report, based on information from more than 42,000 incidents involving over 1,900 breaches in 84 countries, has just been released for 2017.

The DCIA encourages you to familiarize yourself with the findings of this valuable report and use the information to improve the cybersecurity posture at your organization.

While DCINFO readers are aware that ransomware is a growing threat, Verizon’s report reveals that, in three short years, ransomware has gone from being ranked as 22nd among specific types of malware to fifth place.

In fact, incidents of ransomware increased 50% from last year.

In a related finding, 73% of breaches were financially motivated; while only 21% were related to espionage.

62% of breaches involved hacking, with 81% of hacking breaches leveraging stolen or weak passwords.

And 51% of breaches included malware that, in two-thirds of such cases, was installed by means of email attachments.

Meanwhile 43% of data breaches utilized phishing, and virtually all were linked to software installation on a user’s device.

Targeted industries were led by financial (24%), followed by healthcare (15%), which was matched by retail and hospitality (combined 15%), and then by public sector organizations (12%).

Small-to-midsize businesses (SMBs) were particularly vulnerable, with 61% of victimized entities employing fewer than 1,000 people.

While less dramatic than ransomware, cyber-espionage is also increasing, in part as a result of the growth of social networking, research communications, and electronically stored confidential personal data.

More than 15% of reported breaches this year were espionage-related, many of which originated as phishing emails.

Verizon recommends training all employees to identify the warning signs of a breach, granting system access only to those who need it for their work, and patching operating systems and software programs promptly to guard against cyberattacks.

While there is no such thing as an impenetrable system, getting the basics right makes a huge difference. Share wisely, and take care.

Big Data Analytics: $16 Billion Industry by 2025

The big data analytics sector in India is expected to witness eight-fold growth to reach $16 billion by 2025 from the current $2 billion, industry experts said here. The sector is expected to reach $16 billion by 2025 and register a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26 per cent over next five years, they said. According to these experts, India is currently among top 10 big data analytics markets in the world and Nasscom has set a target of making the country one among the top three markets in the next three years.

“The government, industry and academia can collaborate to build an ecosystem to generate sustainable solutions by harnessing the power of big data and digital innovation,” said WNS Global Services Group CEO Keshav Murugesh said.

Public Cloud Infrastructure Spending Rises

Public cloud services will be the fastest growing market segment for IT deployment in 2017, according to the latest note from IDC.

Spending on traditional data centers, which ranked at more than 60% of the market in 2016, will dip to less than half by 2021, the analyst firm argues, with public cloud taking the majority of the slack.

Total spending on IT infrastructure for deployment in cloud environments – server, enterprise storage and Ethernet switches – will reach $40 billion in 2017, at an increase of 12.4% year over year.

Public cloud will grow at the fastest rate, of 13.8%, with off-premises private cloud environments at 11.9% growth and on-prem private clouds growing 9.6% year on year.

For cloud IT environments, Ethernet switches will represent the fastest growing segment, with 25.8% year on year growth in 2017, with spending on enterprise storage at 12.0% and servers 9.1%.

China Mobile & Huawei Smart Stadium

The company said on Thursday that shipping and invoicing had been disrupted during the last four days of the most recent financial quarter, but that a “critical majority” of its systems were back up and running.

Hospitals across the United States have not been able to create electronic records for more than a week after the software maker Nuance Communications experienced significant problems with its computers. On Thursday, it was not clear when all of the company’s systems would be working properly.

Reckitt Benckiser, which makes Lysol spray, lowered its sales forecasts on Thursday, citing disruptions to its supply chain.
